Badger Challenge relies on hundreds of volunteers to support our participants and the UW cancer mission. Volunteers are able to contribute in a number of ways.

PRE-EVENT SUPPORT
Badger Challenge setup starts long before our first participants make their way to the start line as we load rest stop trucks and set up our beautiful site all weekend. We also hold our pre-event packet pick-up and registration if volunteering directly with participants is more your speed.
Packet Pick-Up and Registration
Checks in and/or register walkers, runners and riders and distribute their registration materials including packet, shirt and bag. Also assists with event questions. Pre-event packet pick-up and registration takes place on Friday and Saturday of Badger Challenge weekend.
Please note: Proficiency with iPads and laptops is required.
Rest stop truck loading
Loads tents, tables, chairs, food and dry goods for bike rest stops and run/walk aid stations.
Please note: This activity requires heavy lifting, standing for long periods of time and getting in and out of rental trucks.
Site & Signage Set Up
Sets up Badger Challenge tents, tables, chairs, flags and signage on-site (6000 American Parkway/main event site). Places tablecloths and table top signage on dining and participant service tables.

PARTICIPANT SERVICES
Badger Challenge provides the highest quality to its participants. Be part of the participant experience by volunteering in one of the many participant services areas.
Beverage Service
Manages the proper checking of IDs and distribution of beers, water and soda to participants. Ensures beverage tent is clean and organized.
Please note: Must be 21+.
Breakfast Catering Assistance
Sets up pre-event breakfast area and manages food and coffee service. Replenishes food as needed.
Catering Assistance
Assists caterer with food service including checking wristbands, serving participants from the buffet, stocking beverages and ensuring buffet lines are clean and organized.
Gear Check
Collects and retrieves gear bags from participants and ensures bags are secure. Manages and organizes gear bags that come from bike rest stops.
Family Activity Area
Assists kids and families with various activities including crafts, jewelry making, drawing and coloring. Helps manage balloon making and face painting line and tidies up space as needed.
Finish Line Support
Provides participant with post-event beverages including water, electrolyte water and chocolate milk. Gives all finishing participants their medal and helps direct participants to post-ride activities including photos and lunch.
Floating Support
Supports Badger Challenge where we need it the most! Supplements volunteer areas as needed and completes a wide variety of tasks that may include catering assistance, finish line support, restocking beverages and more. Floaters will be assigned duties at check-in.

Information
Assist participants with questions regarding the course, event site, fundraising, results and more.
Please note: Volunteer will be required to meet with Operations Director prior to the event during multiple in-person and/or virtual meetings.
Merchandise Sales
Manages merchandise sales and handles online pre-orders.
Please note: Must be comfortable with iPads and handling money.

Parking Attendant
Directs participants to available parking spaces in on-site ramps (riders & volunteers only) and helps participants exit ramps safely post-event. Parking attendants at our satellite parking lot (walkers & runners) direct participants to available spaces and guide them to the shuttle bus.
Ticket Sales
Sells wristbands to guests who want to join their participant for lunch.

COURSE SUPPORT
Volunteers are critical to providing support and safety to all participants while on their course. Badger Challenge provides individuals and groups several opportunities to contribute to Badger Challenge and its mission throughout several Wisconsin counties as Badger Challenge routes weave through many communities before finishing back in Madison.
Aid Station Support
Sets up tables, food and beverages along with replenishing food and beverages throughout day as needed. Cheers on our walkers, runners and riders!

Course Marshal
Assists at major intersections and other road crossings that may need added support. Helps direct runners in the proper direction for their course.
Please note: Basic bike mechanic and repair knowledge and experience required.
